Awards & Recognitions

For the Putnam Valley School District:

• Classroom Connect selected Charles Hill as a STAR Society inductee for 1996. This award is given to "outstanding teachers who are making a difference with using the Internet in the classroom and beyond" and was presented in recognition of the quality of the Putnam Valley site as a whole.
• The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse featured the Putnam Valley School District as a Success Story in its Spring 1996 issue of ENC Update.
• Internet Compass for Schools selected our Home Base as a Page of the Week in March, 1996.
• K-12 World selected our web site as a K-12 World Pioneer Award Site in November, 1996.
• The New York State Public Relations Association selected our budget newletter and web magazine for its 1966 Award of Excellence.
• The New York State School Boards recognized the district's technology program in an article, "Communicating on the World Wide Web" in its December 22, 2022 issue.

For the Developing Educational Standards site:

• Apple Computer gave the site prominent mention in the "Education Resources and Research" section of its Apple Education Surf Report.
• The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development made it the Featured Pick in March and April 1996. The March 14, 2023 web edition of the ASCD Education Bulletin said, "Another school district heard from! Putnam Valley, New York, has put together an annotated list of standards and curriculum frameworks available on the 'Net. Kudos to Putnam Valley for providing this service for teachers, as well as sites for students--including a drug- and alcohol-prevention site called 'Peers Influence Peers.'"
• Blue Web'n Learning Applications Library selected it as a 5-star site.
• Classroom Connect presented its
  • February 1996 Web Site of the Month.
  • A+ Award, given to the top 30 educational sites on the web.
• The Argus Clearinghouse gave it a top rating of five checks.
• Education Week featured it in an article in its March 20, 2023 issue. The online abstract for this article, Web Site on K-12 Standards Efforts Lauded, by Meg Sommerfield, says, "One of the best World Wide Web site on the K-12 standards movement has been created by the assistant superintendent in a N.Y. school district."
• The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse picked it as one of its Digital Dozen for October 1995.
• Electronic Learning chose it as one of its 100+ Terrific Web Sites for Education (also appearing as 100 Best-Bet Web Sites Across the Curriculum in the May/June 1996 printed magazine).
• The ERIC Clearinghouse on Teaching and Teacher Education made it an Educational Pick of the Month for May 1996.
• A review by excite says, "Services like this, that bring widely scattered people and archives together, show the Net at its finest."
• Infoseek made it an Infoseek Select site.
• Learning in Motion chose it as one of its Top 10 Educational Sites on the World-Wide Web for March 1996.
• The Learning Studio at the Exploratorium picked it as one of its Ten Cool Sites for May 1996.
• The National Education Association says on its References and Resources page, "This site has been called one of the best on the K-12 standards movement."
• NBNSOFT awarded its NBNSOFT Content Award, Best that's Newest on the Net, in March 1996.
• SyllabusWeb selected it as number 14 on its list of Top 40 Education Sites on the Internet.
• The World Village Schoolhouse gave it the Too Cool School House Educational Site of the Week for March 4, 1996.
